2. Prepare
- get ready for audit
Once we’ve accepted your application, it’s important you get properly prepared for your audit.
Make sure you understand what you need to do for each requirement and complete the pre-audit checklist.
Remember, the more prepared you are, the smoother and easier it will be.

Request a copy of the current Standard and/or Farmer Handbook
3. Audit - what to expect
Your audit will be with of our independent auditors (QCONZ). These auditors all have a farming background, so they know their way around a farm.
You can expect the audit to take about two hours. They're not there to try and trip you up, but they will be thorough - it's essential for the reputation of the industry that we get this right.

WITHIN TWO DAYS OF AUDIT
4. Certification
If you pass your audit, you can expect to receive certification within two business days – and congratulations from us on a job well done!
If you’re issued with any corrective action requests (CARs), you’ll need to close them within 30 days (or within 24 hours, for critical CARs). Your auditor will provide guidance on what’s needed to close these out. Once the audit requirements are met, you should receive certification within two business days.
EVERY THREE YEARS
5. Re-certification
To maintain your certification, you’ll be audited every three years.
It’s important you get properly prepared for your recertification audit. This includes completing the audit checklist and checking what’s changed since you were first certified.
If you’re not sure what's changed, take a look at the ‘What’s new’ section of our website. You can also request a copy of the latest version of the Standard here. Your livestock company or wool company representatives will also keep you up to date and provide ongoing support.
RECORD KEEPING
It's simpler than you might think
Really. You can keep your records in whatever way works best for you. This might be using an online programme, using your farm diary or meat company records book, or downloading the templates here - it's that easy.
We just need to see that all the information we’re looking for is recorded somehow, somewhere.

Templates
Take a look at our range of templates, designed to make record keeping easier. Use them together with our factsheets and you'll be audit ready in no time!
